Artisans

Women artisans play a significant part in preserving the culture of Chitral. For generations they have depicted images from their natural environment and traditional folklore in splendid hand-woven creations. Celebrating the magic and mystique of this ancient mountain kingdom, these vibrant motifs and patterns also reflect the vivacity and inherent optimism of those who weave them.

It is not only KRIZMAH’s intent to showcase the skills, but also to promote the dreams of these exceptional women. Since its inception, KRIZMAH has worked closely with local cooperatives in offering an equitable income in return for their superior craftsmanship. Living with otherwise limited opportunities to improve the quality of their lives, KRIZMAH allows these mothers to embroider at home, without neglecting their daily housework and responsibilities. KRIZMAH is also providing scholarships to the daughters of these women, so that they benefit from a stronger education and secure a finer future for themselves and eventually their own families.

Like the wild iris itself, the KRIZMAH craft stands resplendent and resilient, connecting the mystique of eras past to all that is potent to Chitrali posterity.
